Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The Division of Continuing Education is seeking a part-time instructor to teach employment focused classes. The intent of these classes is to prepare students for job searches and to teach them workplace survival skills. Skills to be emphasized include basic computer skills, Career Readiness Certification preparation, and job search and retention strategies. The classes will be offered at Hyde Correctional Institution in Swan Quarter, NC. Classes will be offered Monday through Thursday between 8am and 3pm.

Please note, any offers of employment are contingent upon approval of the Superintendent of Hyde Correctional Institution.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Development, Criminal Justice Education, or related degree.

Work Experience:
Two years counseling, mentoring, advising or closely related role; and experience with adult learners and/or socio economically diverse groups in an academic/college or community based setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Development, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Education or related degree.

Preference will be provided to applicants with basic computer skills in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Essential Duties

• Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course syllabus.
• Maintain accurate registration, attendance, and payroll records for each course taught.
• Prepare, review, and update course syllabus on a regular basis.
• Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.
• Use formative and summative assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching.
• Create an effective learning environment and use teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles.
• Submit required reports and fulfill all contract provisions.
• Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.
• Maintain student, instructor, and staff confidentiality. Consistently monitor work area to ensure instructor and student data is being protected according to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
• Multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
• Adapt and respond to changing work situations and environments in a positive manner.
• Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.
• Interact with students, the public, the community, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous and professional manner.
• Comply with the College’s policies and procedures.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities, as assigned by supervisor.

FLSA
Estimated Hours per Week up to 23 hours per week
Range Based on the College’s salary plan and commensurate with education and relevant work experience.
